Why use SE.org
How can entrepreneurs, the global shipping and finance industries, and leading ports work together to reap maximum financial rewards from the uptake of cleaner innovations? What are the barriers that shipping stakeholders and entrepreneurs see to getting money saving ideas adopted by the marketplace? Finance, standards, inertia, information, training – how do we overcome these and other barriers to achieve gigaton-scale savings and drive new opportunities?
Shipping is beginning a low carbon transformation as the market responds to open energy information, increasing fuel prices, and supply chain pressure from shippers integrating environmental performance into the business operations.
The ShippingEfficiency.org website has successfully become a search tool within the shipping industry, known by almost every stakeholder we converse with. The biggest challenge has been within the arena of data collection for the website and ensuring that our data is comprehensive. We are currently talking to many major ‘players’ within the shipping industry from whom we can receive data for the website. With an increased flow of data from our partners and stakeholders this challenge would be reduced.
ShippingEfficiency.org enables market participants to more easily factor in vessel efficiency in their decision-making. By employing methodology and data already available, such as overlaying the European Union’s ‘A–G’ rating on the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index, ShippingEfficiency.org provides a commercially focused tool, operating independently to, and ahead of, the regulatory pathway.
“First I would like to thank your organisation for providing such as an valuable service. The disclosure of vessels energy efficiency rating is a great initiative which I hope will be able to push for higher transparency related to the emission profiles in the shipping industry.” Lars Erik Mangset, Advisor Shipping and Climate WWF Norway.
